Environmental Stewardship
Heritage is committed to measuring and monitoring its environmental impact across its operations and is engaged in baselining, reducing, and tracking its Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions. As part of these efforts, and the company’s broader environmental stewardship objectives, Heritage aims to minimize waste and maximize recycling efforts.
Emmission Reduction Initiatives
Energy Efficient Operations
Heritage is implementing forward-thinking strategies to reduce and divert waste from landfill.
The Heritage team has completed store retrofit projects and consistently evaluates energy efficiency opportunities across their stores.
Heritage plans to decrease costs and increase productivity by upgrading to energy efficient technologies and fleet equipment.
1/3 of our Heritage stores have recently undergone upgrades to their lighting, HVAC systems, and refrigeration in 2024 to optimize energy efficiency/reduce energy usage.
Food Waste Reductions
Heritage reduces food waste and helps address community food insecurity through donating food that would otherwise be landfilled.
100% of Cardenas, Tony’s, and EL Rancho’s store locations have food donation programs in place.
All HGG stores provide opportunities for local team members to participate in our food donation program. This is in addition to food donated to 20 local charity partners across all 6 states.
In 2023, HGG generously contributed over $2.7 million in food donations. These efforts helped provide nourishment to countless individuals and families in need.
HGG is on track to surpass $4 million in food donations for 2024. This upward trend reflects Heritage’s dedication to making a meaningful impact in their community.
As of spring this year, all 115 HGG locations are actively involved in supporting local food banks.
“At HGG, sustainability isn’t just a priority—it’s woven into the fabric of our identity. Our commitment to reducing emissions is not only about the present; it’s an investment in the health of our future. As we navigate the climate crisis, urgent action serves as our guiding compass, directing our focus toward the well-being of both communities and our business alike.”
